Breakthroughs in compute and data scale have brought AI firmly into the forefront of many (if not most) conversations about enterprise technology. And, as you would expect, these conversations have spilled into the world of IT, typically under the moniker of “AIOps.” This is great! But it is not without its caveats. AI is hard, IT Ops is hard, and merging the two comes with many potential pitfalls. The key to successfully leveraging AIOps is an “eyes wide open” and fully informed approach. Don’t take any vendor’s marketing as fact — AI, ML, and NNs are not a one-size-fits-all magic wand. Do remember that the point is to make operations easier for humans by providing helpful alerts and context — and the way to do that is to use the right algorithms in the right places at the right times. So, be sure to ask your vendors the hard questions about how they are approaching AIOps with this understanding in mind…

Andy Fisher, Myriad360
I count my time working with Chris among my most rewarding professional experiences. Chris is someone with a voracious appetite for knowledge and a desire to understand the world around him. While these traits make him an incredible thought partner that excels at introducing new concepts and riffing off the ideas of others…it also makes him a multiplier, someone that helps others sharpen their own thinking by forcing them to be more introspective, to be more curious about what’s possible, and to think critically and objectively about the reality of a situation.
Chris is a tide that raises many boats, not just through his ability to cultivate innovation and promote positive disruption, but by the example he sets. Chris is one of the most accountable people I’ve ever known and consistently demonstrated a knack for bringing order to chaos, prioritizing diffuse – and often conflicting – objectives, and producing positive outcomes in situations where the deck seemed stacked in such a way that that doing so appeared impossible.
Rick Kenney, Myriad360

Chris was an excellent coach, mentor and problem solver. Chris consistently possesses a “can do” attitude while taking on more and more responsibility and taking the time to fully understand, upskill and learn as required for success. Chris is very organized and patient. He is proactive in identifying and addressing risks and issues that could erstwhile derail hard-earned successes. Chris’ list of talents and intangibles is long, but never a surprise once you get the opportunity to work with him.

Chris excels at finding best practices for a company which in turn make processes more efficient and reliable. He uplifts those that report to him with encouragement for their work. His confidence in his role reflects in his work!
Kenyanna Cornely, GigaOm
Together we conquered many challenges, won impossible battles in the vendor industry and created a unique security practice. He has an interesting set of talents of being an engineer, innovator, and a thought leader, but never mixes any of these roles. That is what makes him successful as a leader. “Never be comfortable” is what Chris would tell me, which is what pushed me to do my first tech talk. I now have dozens behind me within some of the largest conferences known in the security vendor industry. Chris is nothing short of supernatural.
Leo Cruz, Myriad360
As Chris’ Editor for Exploring IPv6, a Day One book, he kept tohis schedule, output exceedingly lucid prose, and gave a sense ofinstructional design to an extraordinary tough technology todeploy. On time, better than could be expected, and executed with grace.

He is committed, talented, organised and full of enthusiasm. I don’t know how he manages it, but looks like his days are 36 hour long! In fact, he is not only a good manager but he has a boatload of other activities in parallel: blogs, podcasts, events, videos, and more. All developed with quality and users in mind. I enjoyed working with him and this collaboration also taught me a lot.
Enrico Signoretti, Juku consulting

If looking for someone to lead an organization to the next level, Chris’ input and direction would be invaluable. Chris Grundemann was among the most energetic and competent members of our Council throughout his time as an elected member. I found(find) Chris a most thoughtful man who brought insight and experience to the role, but was also always a genuine and professional member exerting leadership with tact and good humor. I think highly of Chris both as a technical professional and community leader, but also as a trusted friend.
