\"Open-IX\"<\/a>Today I’m headed off to San Diego and the first ever Americas Interconnection Summit<\/a>, put on by Open-IX<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This open, neutral event is targeted at all Internet participants interested in interconnection, including Internet Service Providers, Content Providers and Content Delivery Networks, Data Center and Internet Exchange Operators, and related network hardware and software suppliers.<\/p>\n

The event program will feature one-on-one and small group meeting time, networking events, and panels and presentations covering current, relevant topics in peering and interconnection.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I’ll be focused on a couple areas this week.<\/p>\n

Most obviously I’ll be giving my popular IPv6 Security Myths<\/a> talk again. However, even if you’ve seen this presentation before I encourage you to watch me try to pull it off in less than 15 minutes, as a lightning talk! I note that I’m in very good company, with the other lightning talks being given on Thursday, 9 April between 14:15 and 15:00 PDT by John Curran (ARIN) and Jane Coffin (Internet Society). In fact, the whole agenda<\/a> looks quite interesting!<\/p>\n

Off of the published agenda, I’ll be running around the hallways talking about BCOPs. My intention here is to help ensure that folks starting or running an IXP have one set of best practices to follow, and aren’t faced with a confusing mix of information. Specifically I’ll be looking to ensure compatibility between the various existing efforts to document requirements and BCOPs for IXPs. Do the OIX-1<\/a> and OIX-2<\/a> technical requirements fit with the IXP BCOPs published by Euro-IX<\/a>? How does that all fit with the Internet Society’s IXP Toolkit<\/a>? Are there other documents or sources which need to be included, updated, or even obsoleted? Can these materials all be merged into a single definitive BCOP (perhaps published\/maintained by the Internet Exchange Federation (IX-F<\/a>)), or is their conflicting information that must first be resolved? In short: How can we continue to improve the state of IXPs worldwide through more uniform documentation of BCOPs?<\/p>\n
